World Watercolor Month: Day 12 — A Quiet Morning with a Hummingbird

Welcome back to Day 12 of my World Watercolor Month journal.

This morning's painting was simple, peaceful, and exactly what I needed.

I painted a little hummingbird hovering beside a bright pink orchid using my Caran d'Ache gouache pan set on one of my watercolor greeting cards.

There wasn't a grand plan behind today's painting. I wasn't trying to master a new technique or create a finished piece for my shop. I simply wanted to spend a quiet morning painting something beautiful.

Sometimes that's enough.

One of the things I'm enjoying most about this month is allowing myself to paint without expectations. Some mornings are filled with experimentation, while others are simply about slowing down and enjoying the act of putting color onto paper.

Today's hummingbird and orchid reminded me that not every painting has to be complicated to be meaningful.

Sometimes the simplest subjects bring the greatest sense of peace.

Today's Thought

Create because you love creating.

Not because you feel pressure to produce.

Not because you think every painting has to become something bigger.

Sometimes the greatest gift we can give ourselves is the chance to simply sit down, pick up a brush, and enjoy the process.

That's exactly what today was for me.

Thank you for following along with my World Watercolor Month journey. I'll see you again tomorrow with another morning of painting.

If you enjoyed today's journal, I'd love to hear from you. What do you like to create when you simply want to relax? Leave a comment below and let me know. Happy World Watercolor Month!
