World Watercolor Month: Day 5 — Some Days You're Just Tired
Welcome back to Day 5 of my World Watercolor Month journal.
This morning, I'll be honest—I feel tired.
Some mornings are filled with excitement and ideas, while others require a little more effort just to sit down at the table. Today is one of those days.
I also discovered that I had run out of coffee.
It might sound like a small thing, but it made me realize how much my morning painting routine is tied to simple rituals. Normally, I make a cup of coffee, set out my paints, and ease into my creative time before the rest of the day begins. Without that familiar routine, everything felt just a little different.
So today's entry will be a short one.
Instead of putting pressure on myself to create something amazing, I'm simply going to paint.
My plan is to work on a small clownfish painting and spend a little more time finishing my watercolor of the mama chicken, and chicks. I'm hoping to complete that piece soon so I can add it to my Etsy shop as a new art print (available now).
Nothing complicated.
Nothing perfect.
Just showing up.
Today's Thought
One thing I'm learning through this month is that creativity doesn't always look the same from one day to the next.
Some days you'll have hours of energy and inspiration.
Other days, creating for five or ten minutes is enough.
And sometimes, the most creative thing you can do is rest.
There is no prize for pushing yourself until you're exhausted. Rest is part of the creative process, too. Taking care of yourself gives you the energy to return to your art another day with fresh eyes and renewed enthusiasm.
So if you're feeling tired today, give yourself permission to meet yourself where you are.
Whether you paint for an hour, paint for five minutes, or simply rest, you're still honoring your creative practice.
Thanks for joining me for another morning of World Watercolor Month. I'll see you tomorrow for Day 6.
If you enjoyed today's post, I'd love to hear from you in the comments. Do you have a morning ritual that helps you create? And what do you do on the days when your creative energy is running low?
