World Watercolor Month – Week 3: Tending to Creativity

Hi everyone!

The last time I wrote was on Day 13 of World Watercolor Month. Today is Day 19.

It isn't that I've stopped painting. I've continued to wake up every morning—or at least find a little time each day—to have a watercolor session. I simply decided that this week, instead of writing a post every day, I would share a weekly reflection.

This week has been especially busy with work, and I wanted to spend my creative time painting.

It's funny how one artistic obsession can lead to another. I started by painting orchids on small watercolor greeting cards, and before long, I found myself placing those paintings into greeting card mock-ups in Canva just to see what they might look like as finished products.

Seeing them come to life as greeting cards was exciting.

Of course, once my mind started imagining the possibilities, I couldn't stop. What began as a simple watercolor exercise has now grown into a beautiful collection of watercolor greeting cards that I'll be adding to my Etsy shop very soon.

Another exciting update is that my orchid, sitting on my windowsill, continues to grow. It has started sending up a new flower spike, and every day it seems just a little bit taller than the day before.

Watching it has reminded me of something.

Nature doesn't rush.

You don't have to constantly fuss over a plant to make it grow. You simply give it what it needs—light, water, fresh air, and a little attention—and then you allow it to do what it was created to do.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized creativity works much the same way.

Today's Thought

Creativity blooms when you tend to it.

Not every painting will be perfect.

Not every sketch will become a masterpiece.

But every time you show up, pick up your brush, and spend a little time creating, you're watering something that matters.

Over time, those small moments begin to grow into something much bigger than you expected.

That's exactly what happened with these orchid paintings.

A few simple watercolor studies have now grown into an entirely new collection of greeting cards—something I hadn't planned at the beginning of the month.

It reminds me that creativity often unfolds in unexpected ways if we're willing to stay curious and keep showing up.

I know it's a little cliché to say that it's about the journey and not the destination, but this month keeps reminding me that it's true.

If you have a creative dream, tend to it.

Water it.

Give it your time and attention.

Then be patient enough to watch what blooms.
